Process: This work was built slowly in layers, beginning with a dark base that represents the vastness of empty space. Gradations of light and shadow were added to create depth, followed by bursts of darker textures that suggest cosmic movement across the surface.

Gold foil, stones, paint, and scattered gemstones were then embedded into the piece, allowing the surface to catch and reflect light. As the viewer moves around it, the painting begins to twinkle like a night sky reminding us of the immense, beautiful universe we are only a small part of.

The Inspiration

Inspired by the ethereal beauty and cosmic endlessness, this piece is an exploration of that which exists beyond the physical realm. It is a tactile journey into a manufactured galaxy, where depth is created not just through color, but through layered texture.

The canvas is a structured void of rich blacks and shimmering darks, built up with black diamond stones to create a surface that is both velvety and rough, like raw cosmic dust. From the upper edge, "gemstones dropping" create a sense of vertical movement like a waterfall of light falling into the abyss.

Resin serves as a cosmic glue, trapping and preserving "little stones of gold" and fragile sheets of "gold foil." This creates a high-gloss, liquid-like surface that contrasts sharply with the gritty black elements. This technique gives the painting its "very galactic feel of endlessness and spacelessness," making the colors and lights seem to float at different depths within a clear, infinite void.

The "Wink"

The true magic of this piece is interactive. It does not sit still. Because of the facets on the gemstones and the reflective nature of the gold, the painting reacts dynamically to the environment. As you walk past the painting, these elements glitter and twinkle and almost seem to wink at you in a very mischievous way. What might look like a dark void from one angle suddenly bursts into a playful constellation from another, forcing the viewer to engage in a constant game of hide-and-seek with the light.
