Varanasi Ghat

Size: 90x70 cms

Materials: Mixed Media, Acrylic Paints

Process:

The painting began with a detailed hand-drawn composition on canvas, capturing the distinctive architecture, temples, narrow structures and the iconic boat-filled ghats of Varanasi. Layers of 3D texture were carefully applied across the entire canvas to create depth, while also highlighting the tiny crevices, nooks, architectural details and irregular surfaces that make the old city so distinctive. This textural process creates natural areas of light and shadow, giving the painting a tactile, almost sculptural quality.

After the entire canvas had been textured, acrylic paint was layered over the surface, bringing the composition to life with colour, depth and contrast. Particular attention was given to the boat, where shadows, highlights and tonal variations were painted to create a more realistic, weathered appearance.

The architecture and background were intentionally rendered in a unique, expressive style, combining detailed line work, rich colour and textured surfaces to create a Varanasi that feels both recognisable and artistically interpreted.
